Derendinger’s Furniture began as Derendinger’s Outlet Furniture forty years ago last September, when Judd Wasco, owner of Outlet Furniture in Boonville, retired, and Elaine and George, with the help of their son Daniel, opened Derendinger’s Outlet Furniture at the same location. Elaine had worked for Judd for over 12 years prior;she was hired for the job on the basis of the letter she had written in response to his ad [for a ….] (she couldn’t call or stop in; she had no car or phone at the time).
Elaine, George, and Daniel initially used the building at 312 Sixth Street for both sales floor and warehouse, carrying overstock merchandise up a small drop-down staircase into the attic. Later, the large buildings to the north of the store were purchased to provide much-needed warehouse space. This also enabled Daniel to deal in trade-ins, much to the delight of folks with unwanted furniture, and those looking for a bargain.
Since that time, the store – now Derendinger Furniture, having dropped the ‘Outlet’ twenty or so years ago – has continued to grow. This is due to always making customers the first priority. Whether it is having the lowest prices on quality furniture, free delivery, or service after the sale, satisfied and loyal customers have been the key to Derendinger Furniture’s four decades of success.
